Volkswagen to reveal autonomous electric MPV in Geneva

At the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show, to be held on 8-18 March 2018 in Switzerland, Volkswagen will premier an autonomous, electric car concept with no steering wheel or visible controls. The I.D. Vizzion MPV is the fourth member of the I.D. family.

The concept car drives, steers and navigates autonomously in traffic. A virtual host, with which passengers communicate via voice and gesture control, knows passengers’ personal preferences – thanks to complete embedding into the digital ecosystem – and it adapts to each of them individually.

The car is 5.11m long and has a 225kW system power. Its top speed is 180km/h. The 111kWh lithium-ion batteries enable a driving range of up to 665km when braking regeneration is factored in. The wheels are driven by two electric motors.

The I.D. Vizzion demonstrates the potential of the all-electric architecture from Volkswagen. It is the technological backbone of future Volkswagen electric vehicles. By 2025, the brand plans to introduce more than 20 electric vehicle models. Starting in 2020, the I.D. will launch as an electric car in the compact class; this will be followed, at short intervals, by the I.D. Crozz SUV and the I.D. Buzz MPV.
